No, all backups which were successfully transferred to your G-Drive should be safe. That is the purpose of a backup drive.
FYI, you will need to turn off FindMy if you have that enabled on the Mac. It is easiest to disable this on the Mac in the AppleID System Settings, but you can also do that online using a web browser although that can sometimes be a bit tricky to do. Apple will not be able to perform any repairs while FindMy is active.
