Ipad to memory stick

I have a fifth gen Ipad running 16.7.7 and would like to export some images on the Ipad to a memory stick. It has a lightening connector. I have a lightening to usb adaptor.

If I plug one end of the adaptor into the IPad and the other end into the memory stick nothing happens. I then select for example one image to test the transfer and select the share symbol it does not give me the memory stick as a location. It doesn’t seem to see the memory stick.

There was one exception yesterday where the stick appeared in locations but in trying to do the transfer it failed with a warning coming up.

Any thoughts or ideas please?

As the iPad has limited power capabilities, dependent upon the Storage Device, an external power source is often required. When connecting, you may see an on-screen warning that the connected USB device requires too much power. As such, you cannot use a simple Lightning to USB Adapter alone to power the connected USB storage device.

Instead you will require an Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter to connect USB devices to the iPad. This adapter has both a USB 3.0 Type-A connector and an additional Lightning port to supply power, from your Power Adapter, to both the iPad and connected USB device. The Power Adapter must be rated at 12W or more.
