The Dock suddenly took a few attempts or a few seconds to appear and it gets worse.

Turning off the hide dock in System settings made no difference; it remains hidden and takes multiple efforts to get it to reappear; just checked and it's much worse in Chrome but in Safari it also wasn't fixed so unless there is some setting I'm unaware of it looks like it's a Sonoma issue.

If it works in the new account but not in yours give this a try in your account: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

In Safe mode it was worse; also noticed that "Hot Corners" had some that worked and others not. I tried a new account and all seemed normal; back in the usual account also except that while "Hide dock" is disabled it nonetheless disappears in Chrome and Safari but stays on the Desktop; at least it reappears rapidly once the cursor goes below the screen.

I can't recall what I altered while in Safe Mode; maybe a few possibly relevant things but in there usually the cursor disappeared after being moved below the screen and then back. The Dock took around five seconds to appear - if at all - and only left clicking on the mouse reproduced the cursor. This looks to me like some kind of intermittent interference although as it was worst in Safe Mode - it suggests that Safe mode is where the problem is most manifest; I can't make sense of that. For the time being all is well enough but there is an apprehension that some instability is just a click away on some unknown App or whatever.

All seems well with the normal account except that the Dock hides while in a browser; despite the contrary setting, but since it now comes up quickly I'm not concerned unless there is further deterioration; I did go into safe mode again earlier and the Mouse cursor was often uncontrollable; which seems odd; from my limited knowledge it looks like some App or extension is fixing an error in the OS; I'll do nothing for a while; maybe check Safe mode in the new account and keep Etrecheck in reserve for the time being.
