Deleted contacts don't show in Trash Bin

I am using a MacBook Air M1 running Sonoma 14.2.1. When I delete contacts from Contact app the deleted contacts do not show in Bin.

Likewise when I delete a photo, and then delete it from the 'Recently Deleted' folder, that too does not show in Bin.

It would be great is there is a very simple way to fix this. I am not at all tech-savvy, so won't try anything that gets too far under the hood in case I make a mistake. I don't want to go to a more recent operating system as every time one goes to a new OS it makes the laptop harder to use. For example, Sonoma somehow removed my wallpaper and screen saver and I had to get to grips with the background that moves.
