migration assistant stuck restoring from Time Machine to MacBook with new motherboard

I recently needed to replace the motherboard on my 2017 Macbook Pro,

2.9 Ghz Quad-Core i7 - 16GB RAM running macOS 13.6.5 with 1Tb SSD

So I used the migration assistant to copy the data to the new SSD drive

(from an external Time Machine SSD drive)

When I started the process the estimated time to transfer the data was 12 hours.

I set this going at 9pm last night, at 8am this morning is stated

"updating your system settings..."

Transfered 2,307,756 files

about 24 minutes remaining at 24,7MB/s

it's now 3:30pm, so seven hours with the message unchanged,

do I

1) just cancel and start again ?

2) wait and see ?

3) try again using a different approach ?
