I need to read the SMS (text) messages sent to the number of the data SIM card installed in my iPad cellular (Air 5). I've read one article saying "that's not implemented", but I really can't believe that such basic functionality is not supported. I want to mange my data card from an app, and my operator sends the confirmation code as an SMS...

Your iPad is not a cellular telephone. It has absolutely no capability to send or receive SMS. Such messages use voice, not data cellular capabilities.
I know virtually nothing about Android tablets. I guess these tablets that can perform SMS also have some voice capabilities.
If you happen to own an iPhone, you may use Text Message Forwarding to forward both incoming and outgoing SMS messages to/from your iPad.

That's a pity. It's kind of standard for Android - even my cheapest Android tablet can do it. Probably 1$ saved for every iPad justifies a few thousands of disappointed customers...
