Is there any way to recover photos from an erased iPhone?

My daughter and I share an account. Yesterday we both got new phones and both have issues. The most serious issue is with her photos. Rather than take time to transfer her data from old to new phone, she transferred all photos to iCloud. Later in the process, her old phone was erased. Now she is missing thousands of pictures and videos that are also not on iCloud. Neither Apple support nor AT&T support can help. Can anyone offer suggestions? These pics were of the time span of the birth and first year of her second child and she is devastated.

If she had received a message that syncing was complete with iCloud, shouldn’t they be there?

Are you paying for additional storage for iCloud? There is no way that thousands of photos will fit in the free 5GB space allocated for storage and may have only synced the photos that would fit. It would also most likely take an hour or more to transfer all those photos to iCloud. Another option for you to try is to set up the device again from an iCloud backup. All the photos will be in the iCloud backup before Photos in iCloud was turned on if you have a backup before that was done.

She purchased more space yesterday. So once her old phone was “erased”, there’s no way to retrieve them from it?

If the old phone was backed up before iCloud Photos was turned on, the device can be set up using that iCloud backup and it will contain all of the photos. You do not need her old phone in order to use the backup when setting up the new device.

Yes, but how much storage were the photos using vs how much iCloud storage did she have available. IT could be that she didn't have enough iCloud storage available, so the missing photos didn't sync because there was no space left.

As for the account issue people are talking about. Your AT&T account having 4 on it is fine. They are just making sure you are not sharing 1 Apple ID; each person should be using their own individual Apple ID>

And why is that? We have 4 people on an account, each with separate numbers
and phones. Why is that a problem??

Apple recommends that each family member needs to have their own Apple ID. Refusing to follow this Support Article will increasingly cause problems such as getting each others voicemails and call logs under iOS 17. It does not matter if the phone number is different.

Make sure that each family member has a unique Apple ID - Apple Support
