I cannot delete apps, I can only remove them from my home screen.

I can’t find help for this problem anywhere, so if anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated. My iPad 7th Gen won’t let me delete apps, and only shows up with the option “remove from Home Screen” when I try to delete them. This has led to issues with my storage because I have many apps that take up a lot of space. How do I delete apps?
