How can I remove DuckDuckGo as my search engion on my MacBook Pro 2018?

I am using a 2018 MacBook pro running Sonoma 14.2.1 OS with Safari as a browser. Several years ago I tried DDG. I hated it and wanted off my machine. I switched the search engine back to Google but DDG still comes up as the start screen on Safari. over the years I have made several deep dives trying to get it gone to no avail. I have followed all the various advice but nothing helps. I know I should be telling you everything I have tried but I really haven't a clue.
