I've spent some time purging a bunch of old files to clear out my hard drive but I'm still trying to figure out WHY the system data is taking up nearly 60% of my hard drive!
You can see that none of the other "documents" etc, are taking up much space at all, so I'm not sure what's going on.

I was able to download DaisyDisk and found that Adobe After Effects had "cached" nearly 500GB!!!
A simple "clear cache" through AE was able to clear it up
