MacBook Air won’t find hp printer

Might that be the HP DeskJet Ink Advantage 5285 All-In-One Printer? You just have to select it in Printers & Scanners. Read Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac - Apple Support. You must explicitly select AirPrint.

If there is an HP OfficeJet printer with that model number 5285, I can't find one on HP's website or anywhere else.

I have seen a similar problem recently with my HP inkjet, used with AirPrint. If the printer has gone to sleep, just go to the printer and tap its screen to wake it. Your laptop should then be able to detect the printer
