Download apps

Hello, my the app store won’t let me download apps because it wants my card info when I don’t have any subscriptions besides storage and thats’s paid so I’m not understanding. Can anyone help?

App Store difficulties When I try to download an app, (most apps) it has a cloud symbol instead of the “GET” button i see when I go to download a free app. It has been like this for awhile, and it’s mainly happening to apps I’ve previously had on my phone, and now I can’t download any of said apps. The reason I can’t is because when I press the cloud icon it asks for my billing information, when I put it in it keeps trying to take money out of my card. Even though the app I’m trying to download is free. I have no subscriptions going, and I have even removed my card and added it again. I’m not sure what I’m missing can somebody please help me because I have not been able to download apps at all

Can I download apps without payment method? At the moment I do not have a debt or credit card so how can I download or update new apps or apps that I have that are free without asking for card information. I never had a problem before now all of a sudden I have to add a card? [Re-Titled by Moderator]

You may still be required to add a valid payment methods even if the app is a "free" download. It is step 2 in the following Support Article:

If you can’t download or update apps - Apple Support

AppStore requires a payment method to be on file.

If you don’t have one, you can’t use the AppStore.
