How can I transfer music from an old Mac to my iPad or phone

Hi there, I have a old Mac 2008 used never, but have a lot of music on it which Iwould like to have on my iPad or phone…some of the music was purchased in iTunes the rest were cd transfer (cd’ssadly long gone) anyway I can do this with much loved music? I’ve also tried to transfer to mp3 player again with no luck, any help greatly appreciated
