Apple Pencil 2 discharges overnight even when correctly docked

I’ve been through this for a long time.

i have an iPad Air 5 and Apple Pencil 2.

everything working wonderfully, until one day it starts to discharge overnight.

i tried everything. Forgetting in Bluetooth, always checking if it was correctly docked and charging, updating, restarting etc..

nothing solves the problem.

i wen to the Genius Bar, showed the problem and got a new pen.

I am on my fourth pen now and no more warranty and the exact same problem.

mid this is not a chronic problem, I don’t know what it is.

If your replacement Apple Pencil discharges while docked with the inductive charging port of the host iPad, then your iPad may itself have a fault.

Starting at the beginning, try a forced-restart of your iPad - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

If you still cannot resolve the problem, you would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad - and you can explore your available options for repair:

I tried some of this procedures before with no success.

When I was getting my third pen, I also asked at the genius bar if it couldn't be an iPad issue.

They said it wasn't due to the problem being solved when changing for a new pencil.

Yet, the problem came back again after a few months.

I will need some days to try each one of these procedures and test the pen. I'll come back after that.

Thank you for the answer.

I would still like apple to do something about it.

Searching here, I see there are some people with the same problem. It is a small percentage, but it's unacceptable to pay such a premium on a device and still be in a lottery.

And despite being able to change pens while in the warranty, now it's over and I probably won't be able to pay for a repair right now. This makes me really think twice before buying another iPad or even recommending it to anyone.
