I found that the nearest authorized support service is a Best Buy in my area, and made an appointment online to get the battery replaced. When I called to confirm my appointment and ask the cost, they said they did not have any batteries on site, and I should try to get one myself and bring it into the store at my appointment time so they can replace it. I have been unable to find out the part number needed or where I can get one. Help?
I have a very hard time believing this.
Best Buy is an authorized Apple service center and therefore will use only Apple genuine parts. Since Apple doesn't sell parts to anyone that isn't a genuine service center, you would not be able to buy a genuine battery. This would open them up to all sorts of liability issues if they put a non-genuine battery in your phone.
If you really are talking to Best Buy, I would go there in person and ask to speak to a manager about this, something doesn't seem right.
