Slow app startup after reboot

After a reboot, app startup is very slow. Word or Excel take about 50 seconds. Photoshop takes 30 seconds for the splash screen, and over 2 minutes to be usable. I am using Ventura on a 2017 Retina 5K iMac. I have done a safe mode startup, and run EtreCheck which didn't show much. I'm wondering if my iMac is just too old for Ventura, or if there is something else going on

What are the read and write speeds in the Etrecheck report that you ran?

Rather than ask question after question just post the Etrecheck report as follows: Copy the report

and use the Additional Text button to paste the report in your reply.

Then we can examine the report and see if we can determine the cause of the problem.

If we find the the current boot drive is inadequate or failing a better solution would be to get an external SSD, clone your boot drive to it with Carbon Copy Cloner and boot and run from it. We'll know more after you post your report.

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?

Give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
