iPhone 14 Pro will not take photos in HDR

Since upgrading to an iPhone 14 Pro, I've noticed the camera has NEVER taken an HDR photo. Supposedly the 14 Pro automatically turns on HDR when most useful, but this is clearly a myth. In all conditions, all lighting, all lenses, my iPhone 14 Pro will NOT turn on HDR. I've lost the ability to control the shadows and highlights like I could on my X, and me photos look much worse. The stock answers "By default, iPhone takes photos in HDR (for the rear camera and the front camera) when it’s most effective" or "For iPhone 14 Pro, HDR is computationally enabled when it will best benefit the photo being taken" are clearly incorrect. It simply does not take HDR photos, at all. Ever. It apparently is unable to.

I bought this phone in a big part for the camera functions. This is unacceptable. There has to be a way to shot HDR photos and a high-end phone like this.

How can I correct this issue?

iPhone 14 Pro, iOS 17
