How do I get my notifications to show up on the device I am on vs the one in the next room?

When receiving the above notifications, I hear the familiar Message notification ring from my iPad, usually in the other room, but not on my iPhone. How can I correct this? I'm now, after many years using an Android phone, fully Apple and still a lot of little nagging items like this to sort out. Other than that I thoroughly enjoy being all under one Apple roof!

Presumably both your iPad and iPhone are signed-in to iCloud with the same AppleID. You should note that Notification settings are not synchronised between devices - and by design it is possible to have different Notification settings on each of your devices.

If you wish both devices to have the same Notification behaviour on both devices, you'll need to manually set your Notification settings to reflect your chosen configuration. The iPad User Guide is a rich source of information - and should provide appropriate guidance:
