Why does macbook pro randomly play 3 pitches that sound like Rhapsody in Blue?

I'll be working on something, i.e. not opening a new app or file, and my computer will make this sound. It's 3 tones, E, F#, A, which is the same pattern as Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. It tends to happen at whatever the last volume setting is, which can be really loud if I've been listening to music. It's annoying and annoys my partner. It doesn't seem to be any sort of notification... Does anyone know what it is and how I could turn it off? Thank you in advance!

See if there is anything here:

no just kidding... I have no idea

I would suggest you look at system alert sounds for some clue

To trouble shoot further you can:

—A SafeBoot Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

This test will tell you if third party interference; most extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

unplug all non-essential peripherals when testing

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS
