I have always been able to purchase books to my library using my Apple ID and just last days it is saying to check my husbands payment method which is the same as mine

It seems like there might be a billing issue linked to your Apple ID. First, try signing out of your Apple ID on your iPad and then signing back in. If that doesn't work, check the payment method associated with your Apple ID in the settings. Ensure it's up to date and correct. If the problem persists, contact Apple Support
