Accessing free apps “bought” through a second, now deleted, account

I had two Apple accounts (don’t ask me how), so I deleted one. Now I can’t access free apps that were attached to that AppleID. Is there a solution, apart from defenestrating the iPad?

You will need to "purchase" the free apps again using the new Apple ID. Defenestrating the iPad will not help in any way and, despite a certain immediate catharsis, will probably make you unhappy.

Apps are tied to the account used to purchase them. If they are free, try downloading them using your current account.

Since the account is deleted you cannot try Family Sharing to share the apps from the other account. The only way to do that would be to hope you can reactivate the account and then try Family Sharing.

"What happens if I change my mind after I have requested that my account be deleted?

While your request is being processed, you can contact Apple Support [using this link --> Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support ] with the unique alphanumeric access code you received, and we’ll help you cancel your request. After your account is deleted, Apple can't cancel the request, reopen your account, or restore your data."

I guess the question then transitions to why you can't buy it with the other account? Note that even if the first account was still around you would have to download the app to the second account from the store anyway. The first account would have to give permission to the second one to do this under the context of family sharing.

If you cannot download it because the other ID is in a different country, not even Family Sharing would make that possible.
