Very low quality playback in Apple Music Mac OS App

I have noticed when switching between Apple Music on IOS and Mac OS on AirPods Pro and AirPods Max a dramatic sound quality difference between the two. I'm not talking about volume or "loudness" (although that is also a noticeable problem as well), I'm talking actual fidelity. The audio itself sounds like hold music being played through a telephone. There is also noticeable digital distortion and clipping. This is streamed audio so it should have nothing to do with file corruption within iTunes because the audio sources are not coming from Mp4s saved on my hard drive. I have tried different settings like turning off soundcheck and turning off Atmos and while this has slightly helped with the volume issues, the streaming quality is still well below the lossless standard that Apple is capable of streaming in. I have A/B tested the same songs on IOS and Mac OS with the same headphones and have identified this as Mac OS Apple Music app specific.

Update: Still experiencing the issue and am starting to wonder if it has to do with Handoff or something in the updated Bluetooth connectivity behavior in the last couple of updates. If I restart my MacBook and turn off Bluetooth on my iPhone so that my AirPods don't connect to them then I get full, high quality audio streamed to my AirPods via my MacBook. But if I connect my headphones to my iPhone and try to switch back to my MacBook that is when the low quality audio kicks in. I have also discovered that this applies to all audio from my MacBook not just audio being streamed via Apple Music. This is a HUGE problem for me as I am constantly switching audio sources between my iPhone and MacBook throughout the day.
