Even if the Apple Pencil is charged, it keeps disconnecting from the iPad

I have an iPad Pro, along with a second-generation Apple Pencil. During use, the Pencil randomly disconnects from the iPad, even though it's still charged. I don't think the Pencil tip is worn out as I bought it recently, about two months ago. However, it started making this mistake almost immediately. What's the problem? What can I do?

Have you tried restarting your device? Very simple but often fixes the most random issues.

If that doesn’t work, try taking the tip off your Pencil and making sure it’s in good shape and on tightly. Most of all I recommend going to Settings/Bluetooth to see if there’s anything amiss, and even if there isn’t anything off, make sure to have your device ‘forget’ the Pencil, and then reconnect it. Also, if you use your Apple Pencil very frequently, you may already need to replace the tip.

I hope this helps!

When the Pencil disconnects from your iPad, are you certain that the Pencil battery has adequate charge?

It is generally recommended that a second generation Apple Pencil should be kept docked with the iPad when not in use - as this ensures that the tiny internal battery is kept optimally charged. Charging only occur when the battery requires charge from the iPad, optimal charge being entirely automatic.

Keeping the Pencil separated from the iPad when unused risks allowing its battery to discharge; if allowed to remain in this state, the battery may suffer damage. When the battery fails, the only remedy is to replace the entire Pencil; the battery is not a serviceable item.

An otherwise healthy Apple Pencil will suffer no negative consequences from being docked with its host iPad for extended periods.

This has been happening to me too and I only just bought my iPad and Pencil last week. Now it’s not even connecting at all. Why is it so expensive if it doesn’t even work properly.

If you have only recently purchased the Pencil, consider returning the Pencil to the retailer from which it was purchased for exchange or refund.

Otherwise, your Pencil has a warranty. You might be well advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to offer assistance:

I do keep my Apple Pencil disconnected from the iPad when not in use because I was told it's better for the battery. However, before I use it, I always charge it to 100%.

If this was the issue, I hope it's fixable without needing a complete replacement of the Apple Pencil. Thank you for your advice. I've tried everything else, and it hasn't worked, so now I'll just hope for the best.
