Locking the Dock on Macbook

I'm not one for posting to forums, as there's usually a valid response available somewhere out there. However, I honestly can't believe that this is not an option, am I missing something?

Every time my cursor gets near the bottom of my second monitor, all bets are off and the dock switches, opening random apps where I'd meant to click the window. Moving the cursor back to the main monitor is never enough to switch the dock back - no matter what I try I have to manually shift+click+drag it back. But sure enough, it pops back to the external monitor as soon as my cursor enters the bottom half of my screen.

Separate spaces is not a good solution, docking to the side won't work as I need the width for development, and vanishing dock is extremely unintuitive.

It's 2024, is there honestly no option to just lock the dock in place? I have to be missing something here.

Hey Leroy, I appreciate the info and help here. Your 2008 reference is for locking the items in the dock, not the position itself. Your second reference is the initial directions I had followed, each having unintended consequences that I've laid out above.

If you search anywhere for "Macbook lock docking position" you'll find dozens of threads with people to this day trying to find a workaround for this issue to no avail. Apparently there used to be a terminal command to disable this feature:

defaults write com.apple.Dock position-immutable -bool yes; killall Dock

However, this or any similar commands no longer work (possibly due to some individuals locking the dock to a disconnected screen?). Are there any plans to make a similar feature? Even if this locks the dock only to the main display to prevent the issue described prior, this would be a huge benefit as in the current state, I cannot use a large portion of the bottom real-estate of my second monitor.

I will submit to product feedback, but if there's anything you or anyone else can think of, please let myself and the world know.
