GSX Shop(School District). Questions about certifications

I am new to this district, it is an all apple school district.

I used to be the hardware technician here 12 years ago, and I had to be ACMT Certified in order to perform DIY repairs in house and have parts shipped from Apple.

I have returned to the district, and I cannot find clear answers on how to make sure we can still perform in house repairs on our devices.

Summary of Issue:

I have a new technician, the certification structure has apparently changed.

What certification does he need? He has been attempting the pass the Apple Device Support Exam, is this required to become certified to do in house repairs. I have been reading, and it seems like maybe he just has to do the ATLAS Courses and maybe the GSX Iphone and Mac courses. Is there a paid test still required? Or are the ATLAS &(or) GSX Courses now sufficient?
