New IPhone 15 cannot update OS

Just traded in our four Verizon wireless iphones and was attempting to set up the new phones. I am unable to get beyond "Preparing Update." I have waited HOURS, I have stopped the process and turned the phone off, I have tried over and over and over, but now I have two upset teens, a ******-off wife and no way to communicate, ALL FOUR PHONES are door stops, HOW do I go back to our old pieces of crap phones? We are ALL in limbo and Apple is not even addressing our problems, I have seen posts for this at least all day long and no one from Applie is chiming in with ANY Help????

I had the problem yesterday. I was on the phone with Apple Tech Support and they had me doing the same thing over and over, which would bring me to a screen to Update the OS, and no other choice. So, after we hung up, I went back and tapped on Start Again, which wiped everything off and when I started the process again, I skipped the part where you download apps etc. Then it finally went through and did not try to update the OS. I now have a working iPhone and I am manually downloading my apps. The Apple apps were there when I finished. Good luck.
