What are the solutions to get the phone back into running condition ?
Most likely something came loose or broke when you dropped it.
First, remove the SIM tray then re-insert it.
If that doesn't fix it then make an appointment at the Genius Bar to have it diagnosed.

Get the SIM card Checked:
I would contact your Carrier. They are the one who configure your SIM card. If it is chipped, or just not working, then they'd provide you with a new one. If it is nothing of a SIM card issue, then take it to Apple.
