Question about Macbook Air M2 ports

I have a Macbook Air M2. I just bought a new Amazon Kindle and it comes with a USB-C charging cable. Can I plug that into the Macbook Thunderbolt/USB 4 port to charge the Kindle??

I just had the opportunity to look at the new Amazon Kindle PaperWhite model. It appears this unit has a USB C connector on it. So to charge it, you should only need the USB C cable that came with the Kindle. This cable should be able to plug directly into your MacBook Air.

If your Kindle had a USB C connector, you could plug it in to your MacBook Air directly. But I'm pretty sure your Kindle has a mini USB connector on it, and probably came with a cable with the mini USB plug on one end and a "standard" USB A connector on the other end.

Your MacBook Air doesn't have any USB A connectors. Both on this Mac are USB C connectors.

So to plug the Kindle into your Mac, you'd use the Kindle's cable to plug one end into the Kindle, and the other end of the Kindle cable into the USB A - USB C adaptor. Then the other end of that adaptor plugs into your MacBook Air.

The adaptors are usually stocked at the Apple Stores. Here's the one I'm referring to: Apple USB A to USB C Adaptor

You can also find them on Amazon, if that's more convenient for you.

You can get cables that go directly from USB-C to USB connectors other than USB-A. (As long as you can keep track of all of the mini and micro USB connectors around so you know which adapter cable to get!)

Apparently there is now a Kindle Paperwhite with a USB-C charging port.

Many previous ones have Micro USB (2.0?) charging ports.

You can charge other devices from a Mac using the Mac's Thunderbolt port provided you have the necessary adaptor. My Kindle, for example, has a mini USB charging port on it. If I wanted to charge it from my Mac, I'd use the Kindle's charging cable and plug that into a USB A <--> USB C adaptor then plug it into my Mac. To be sure I didn't drain my Mac's battery, I'd do this with the Mac plugged into power.
