How do I add fonts to preview on the mac?

I notice that not all the fonts I have are in Preview. How do I add a font to preview? Is there any way to do this? It used to be very easy in Snow Leopard then things started to change. Right now I have about a hundred fonts in Preview but nothing else gets added. I am trying to add noto nastaliq urdu font, but to no avail. Can someone please help. How do I add this font to preview?

Hi mykolavovk,

To add fonts you can do so via Font Book and they will show up in Preview and other applications.

In the Finder, open a new Finder window (command n) and go to Applications in the right side bar. Next, find Font Book and open it. Once it opens, go to the File menu and come down to Add Fonts.

I hope this helps.

Yes, Preview is not very good at displaying available fonts.

With fonts, it kind of has a fixed selection of fonts you can choose as they're only supposed to be for annotation.

But, there is a workaround to get your third party fonts to show. Open Pages and choose the font you want to use in Preview (Boiller used as an example here). Type anything, it doesn't matter what. Then close Pages without saving.

Now go to Preview. Because I just chose Boiller in Pages, it will now be in the "recently used" list at the top.
