I am having trouble with routing / recording with EVOC 20 Polysynth

I'm having a few odd experiences tonight with respect to a simple task.

I'm running Logic v10.7.9 on Sonoma v14.4.1

1st, tried recording a simple few second audio clip to watermark my music.

Could not record with my X1 Mic and Clarett 4Pre USB... or with the MacBook Pro Mic...

Went through audio settings to confirm everything was correct. The Logic settings were not quite in sync with system settings for input and output, so i changed them to the Clarett, clicked apply... even switched everything back to MacBook Speakers and Mic in both Logic and System... rebooted for good measure.

I don't do a lot of microphone recordings, but I've never had a problem with recording in the past.

I actually used my iPhone 7Plus voice memos and emailed it to myself. The quality is not important.

I had intended to run it through the EVOC 20 Polysynth as it has been the standard that I've used in the past when I record my voice.

I'm getting absolutely no output if I place the audio clip on a track armed with the EVOC.

If I put the audio clip on a bare audio track, it plays fine.

I've never been good at routing buses and working the mixer... I can make music, but short of watching videos of things that I'm trying to accomplish I have formal background. I am a systems engineer and technician ... which I suppose is how I've figured my way around these systems.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.

I'm still not able to get this working even after moving / copying, adding more midi notes... but after looking further into my options, I found the vocal transformer ... which seems to be what I used in the past to modulate my voice. It's been some time since I've recorded anything, and it was never this difficult or had any midi notes that I had to position... so it occurred to me that I needed to look further into the audio effects list which logically I don't understand how the EPOC is not in that list as it is clearly intended for voice modulation of sorts... So, after finding the 'vocal transformer' effect I was able to accomplish exactly as I intended. I'll have to investigate the EPOC 20 at a later date... I do appreciate your time and effort in attempting to help. I'm sure if I better understood Logic your instructions would be more helpful. Thanks so much Jan.

You won't hear anything because your audio is on a midi track.

I suppose you want to use EVOC 20 as a vocoder?

Place the audio clip on an audio track.

Set the EVOC in vocoder mode ( Signal: voc, right corner)

Set 'Analysis input' to your audio track.

On the EVOC track record some Midi notes, and you'll get sound.

You can mute the audio track if you only want to hear the vocoded sound.

Thanks Jan...

Yes, the idea is that I recorded my voice and wish to use the vocoder to change it...

I had no interest in using MIDI at all, I tried to arm the EVOC 20 because I expected I could record my voice directly to that track and run it through the EVOC...

What I don't understand is the need for midi notes... which I have tried... or why the EVOC requires midi notes to begin with. Maybe I'm mistaken as it has been some time, but I don't recall there being so much complexity (setting analysis input, switching the signal type or having a second track).

I am hearing the audio clip at least... but placing it 'under' the EPOC does not seem to be working to hear a modulated voice...

I don't know if my health condition is affecting my thinking... but I just can't seem to get it to work as it did in the past...

I'm sure there is something minuscule missing from what I've setup...

Let me know if you see what that is... Thank you.
