I have a card that has been cancelled in my wallet and I want to delete it, but when I click on the card I get a message that verification is needed, but apple is unable to verify so it says to contact my provider who is no longer my provider as I have cancelled the card. I simply want to remove the card. whenever I click on the card System Setting just hangs and I have to force quit. How do I get rid of this card?

Open System Settings -> Apple ID, select your Mac and in the Wallet & Apple Pay section, you will have the option to "Remove items...", click on it and it will remove all the items listed there.
After that, you can just go to System Settings -> Wallet & Apple Pay and remove the card. You will see that instead of "Verification needed" it will say "Removed by Issuer", you can select the card and remove it.

There are no 3 dots on the top of the wallet menu. I am in System Settings/ Wallet and Apple Pay. My only choice is to select the card I want to edit (remove). The card says verification needed. When I select the card, a pop up says "Select a Verification Method" and then immediately get another pop up that says No Verification Method available. Contact card issuer. If I hit okay, I am. back at the verification page which just spins indefinitely. I have to force quit System Settings to exit.
Thanks for the update, your thread title lead me to believe you have a card in Apple Wallet app. Sorry for the confusion.
Do you have any other cards in your Settings app > Wallet & Apple Pay settings?
I have other credit cards in there, but this is the only one that says verification needed. I can get to the other cards as you described, but this one won't open so I can remove it. I just get the message I described above (No verification method available). It tells me to contact my card issuer but I can't as the card has been cancelled.
To delete a card, you can open Wallet, tap on the three dots menu on the top right, tap on Card details, and at the very bottom of that page is a button to remove card.
You’re in the Settings app. That’s the wrong app. You need to be in the Wallet app, not the Settings app. Please follow CodeCrafty’s instructions once you open the Wallet app.
You are correct that it would work on my app on my iPhone, but the card does not appear on my iPhone, only on my MacBook pro and there is no Wallet app for my MacBook (that I can find).
I have one card on my iPhone and it works just as you described.
