How can I delete pictures on my iPad without deleting on iCloud when it sync?

I need to clear the memory on my old iPad, with over 10,000 pictures on my 16 Gb memory. I am worried that deleting pictures will also delete on iCloud when it sync with my iPad.

Disable iCloud photos on the older device from which you wish to delete photos:

Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > iCloud > Photos > iCloud Photos - set to OFF

After you disable iCloud photos, they can be deleted from the device without impacting photos stored elsewhere.
