Remove duplicate photos in Photos on Mac

In the Photos app on my Mac, I click Duplicates in the sidebar. I select the duplicate photos that I want to merge. I click Merge. Instead of leaving the original photo, it moves all copies of that photo to Recently Deleted. I then have to retrieve the photo from there. How do I fix this problem?

Photos for Mac removes wrong duplicates I have around 1800 duplicate photos in my library and wish to remove them. Using the Duplicate finder function in Photos, it correctly identifies photos which appear the same, but on closer inspection, many of the duplicates are significantly different file sizes. We are talking a factor of 10 or more. e.g. higher res = 3MB, lower res 200KB. When I commence the "Merge" function for any of the duplicates, Photos tells me it will keep the highest quality photo and delete the lower quality one, but I have found this to be untrue. In several spot tests, Photos will keep the lower-resolution version of the photo, not the higher one as claimed. Is this a bug, or is there a way to configure the system to pick the right one?

Duplicates Folder is Not Appearing in Photos Sidebar? I have MacOS Version 13.4.1 and I am trying to get the duplicate photo merge & delete function back (It was there yesterday right before I deleted & merged hundreds of photos!). Now there is no Duplicates folder in the sidebar of the Photos app even though I just imported hundreds more duplicates into Photos. I have Photos version 8.0. Anyone know how to retrieve it?

That's odd. When I do that, one copy remains in its original location in the library while the rest go to Recently Deleted. Of course, they all leave the Duplicates list, since the duplication has been handled.
