How to use my US SIM Card overseas to avoid extra charges

I took my US SIM card out of my phone while traveling for several months. I need to verify my account with my US phone number.

what happens if I put my US SIM card back into the phone while in a foreign country? what settings do I need to have to avoid extra charges?

Go to Settings/Cellular and turn off Roaming. Your carrier should have a tech support phone number on their website to contact them when roaming without being charged.

To avoid roaming charges while traveling internationally, make sure you:

Disable data roaming with your carrier before you leave.
