2012 MacBook Pro not recognizing handicam connected with firewire 800

I'm trying to pull old movies off my Sony dv handicam. Because apple no longer sells a firewire to thunderbolt adapter, I cannot use my 2023 iMac.

So, I'm trying an old 2012 MacBook Pro with an 800 port. Unfortunately, when I connect my camera to my computer using this port, my computer does not see my camcorder.

Please help!

Any other firewire device to test if that old firewire 800 port?

Look under >(Option key)System Information>Hardware> does the system recognize the port ,and a active device as plugged in...

Maybe "Sony dv handicam" support would have some insight—if in doubt search the developers website or contact their: Support/Help/FAQ/Known issues/compatibility/updates…
