Calls from blocked number still appearing when phone is unlocked

I have a blocked number calling me that is still showing up, but only when my phone is unlocked. The caller ID has been changed from my original contact name to “no caller ID” so I know that the number is blocked. the calls do not appear when my phone is locked, only when it is unlocked and turned on. How do I stop it from appearing when my phone is on and unlocked?

This is not an indication of a blocked number: "The caller ID has been changed from my original contact name to “no caller ID” so I know that the number is blocked."

  • No Caller ID: This means the caller intentionally hid their phone number from you. They might have done this for privacy reasons, work purposes, or to avoid getting calls back. While it can be legitimate, scammers also use this to mask their identity.
  • Unknown Caller: This means the information about the caller wasn't available, even though it wasn't hidden. This could be due to a network error with your carrier or the caller's service provider.

When you block a number on your iPhone:

  • Calls from that number are silenced: Your phone won't ring or vibrate when the blocked number calls.
  • The voicemail option remains: The blocked call can still potentially reach your voicemail (depending on your voicemail settings). You won't see a notification for the voicemail from a blocked number, but it might be saved in a separate section for blocked messages.
  • No texts or data: Blocking applies to phone calls only. You'll still receive text messages and other data transmissions from the blocked number (unless you take additional steps to block those as well).

Lock status does not affect:

  • Blocking functionality: Whether your iPhone is locked or unlocked, the blocking functionality itself remains the same. Blocked numbers won't be able to get through to you with a call.
  • Silence during calls: Your phone won't ring or vibrate for blocked calls even if it's unlocked.

In summary:

Blocking a number on an iPhone provides a way to silence calls from unwanted contacts, but it doesn't completely prevent them from trying to reach you. They might still leave a voicemail if your voicemail is enabled.
