ProRaw 16:9 images not raw

I took a stack load of pics in ProRaw format (.DNG). However, the pics appear to be smaller in filesize and do not automatically open in Camera Raw. Looks like the pics are not in raw format. All these pics were taken in 16:9 format.

However, the other pics I took on same settings but in 4:3 format come out with large filesize and proper raw and open automatically in Camer Raw.

So it looks as though the 16:9 pics are recorded as .dng files but in effect are not raw pics???

Anyway to recover the raw pics that were taken in 16:9?

When you take pictures on the iPhone with the aspect ratio 16:9, the original RAW file will have the 4:3 aspect ratio and the 16:9 is an edited version, even if it is still showing the dog filename extension. When you pass the 16:9 edited version to an external editor a cropped version may be passed to the external editor, not the original RAW file.

Try to revert the cropped 16:9 .dng images to the original to restore them to 4:3. Can Camera Rawt hen open them directly?

In Photos on your iPhone you can select the image, view it enlarged, then go to the menu with the three dots in the upper right corner of the display and use the command "revert to Original". Then you will have the original uncrossed RAW file.

If you use iCloud Photos to transfer the photos to a Mac, you can also use the "Revert to original" command in Photos for Mac.
