IMAC photos updating but not syncing to icloud

I have paid a subscription so all my photos will be on iCloud and available across all my apple equipment

On my MacBook and iphone everything is good they have synced to iCloud and also to the MAC. However on the MAC (which is where I have 60k photos) it just shows constantly as updating and not syncing old photos. If however I add new photos to the MAC then they do get synced to iCloud, MacBook and iPhone. I have tried switching off and back on again, but can’t find a solution. Thanks for any help

It says "Uploading x items" but Photos is set to "Download originals to this Mac" I have an iMac that I use to store all the originals that have been synced to iCloud from an iPhone and a Photos library on a laptop. When I start up the Photos library on the iMac I see the message at the bottom it says "Uploading x items". That seems strange, as it is only really supposed to "Download originals to this Mac"!! I have been editing my library on both the phone and the laptop, so there are many photos that have been deleted since the last time that I synced this iMac to "Download originals to this Mac". I just want to make sure that it's not just uploading all the photos that were deleted during hours of editing on the other devices.... Basically, it doesn't make any sense that it would "Upload x items..." as NO NEW items have been added on the iMac. Can anyone explain this?

Photos syncronize with icloud problems Hi, I am running Mojave from an extern hardrive on a 2013 imac. Most of my pictures are stored in the original hardrive inside the imac. I have not been using Icloud before, and are now setting it up to syncronize and store my pictures. The problem occures when I go to "Photos" and "preferences" and "Icloud", I get the message: "Icloud - functions for Photos are just available for the system library." How do I get by to make icloud sync all the pictures I have on my hardrive? Best Hans
