It is possible to pair the two separate AirPods together?

My husband lost his right airpod pro and I lost my left. I bought a new set for myself and I wanted to give my husband my old right one to pair with his left one for a complete set. Is that possible? Purchasing a replacement from Apple for each of us would’ve cost more than a new set, which doesn’t seem right in this situation.

It is possible to pair the two separate AirPods together as long as they're the same generation. I was able to do this with my 2nd Gen AirPods. I lost one AirPod and bought a used replacement. When I put it in the charger case, it showed up with a different name. I unpaired my AirPod and repaired both together. This allowed them to sync up.

Here's a guide to help you through the steps:

It also doesn't matter what charging case you use as long as it's meant for the model of AirPods. I have a second AirPods charging case I bought from a yard sale that I use as an extra charger when my other one dies.

Mismatching AirPods:

No. What you are looking to perform is not an option. This is because each airpot has its own Serial Number, both of which are designed to work as one device.
