Help! Time Machine Not Showing Backup despite hard drive showing 300 GB backup file

I'm trying to access a Time Machine backup from 3 years ago. However when I click on my external drive (1TB), it's empty. When I run Disk Utility, it shows 302 GB is currently in use, which is the back-up. When I try to restore, the backup does not appear in macOS recovery.


After running first aid on the external drive, these were the results:

Checking file system and repairing if necessary and if possible.

Volume was successfully unmounted.

Performing fsck_apfs -y -x /dev/rdisk4s2

The volume /dev/rdisk4s2 with UUID 84CDB5FD-7442-4F87-BDF4-C7DB6628784C appears to be OK.

File system check exit code is 0.

Restoring the original state found as mounted.


Operation successful.
