Lost connection with AirTag

My AirTag stopped being visible on my phone. To fix the problem I tried to reconnect to and put in a new battery . Nothing worked so I deleted it from my phone and tried to reinstall it . I don’t have iCloud turned on so I guess it wasn’t saved . I’m at a loss what to do now ?

When an Apple AirTag is successfully "paired" with your iPhone, it is actually being associated with your Apple ID. When you originally signed up for an Apple ID, you are provided an iCloud account.

For an AirTag to provide you with it location, it will require that iCloud account, specifically its Find My service.

The following must be enabled on your iPhone to be able to pair with the tag:

  • Find My: Settings > Privacy & Security > System Services > Find My iPhone
  • Location Services: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services
  • Bluetooth: Settings > Bluetooth
