Compromised Password warning

My wife sometimes will get this popup when opening Safari that says Compromised Password.

She changed her Apple ID password. I think this is bogus but how can I check? And, how can I eliminate it if it is bogus?

Its legitimate. You can go to  > System Settings > Passwords > Security Recommendations, and it will show any password that has been involved in a data leak. If you do not change your passwords regularly, then it is likely there are many passwords affected.

The passwords can be changed from Settings or going to the specific website. I would still avoid clicking a link from any browser suggestion to change a password, just out of consistency in following safe browsing behavior.

I believe the apple.com password was used along time ago before Apple started using the Apple ID to manage all Apple services. You can delete the old apple.com password in System Settings > Passwords, by tapping the info button next to it. This should remove the warning in Safari.

I do not have the apple.com password, but there have been discussions on the use of it in these forums.
