I tried downloading Minecraft Launcher from the website. It downloaded but will not open. I have purchased Minecraft before.

I finally realized my issue. After installing Java, I still never moved the Minecraft application from the disk image to the application folder 😅. Whoops. It works now.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
Supposedly runs on 10.9 or greater...

Does your Mac have Java installed?
In Terminal type...
java -version
Result should look something like this...
java version "1.6.0_65"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_65-b14-468)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.65-b04-468, mixed mode)
I wonder if an older version of Minecraft would work?
What Happens if you right click on it & choose Open?
A notification appears stating it was downloaded from Safari. When you click “ok” the icon on the bar. It stops bouncing after a few minutes but does not show anything on-screen.
This was unsuccessful. After logging in on safe boot, the problem with Minecraft was no different… any other ideas?
The terminal said that Java was not installed
Sorry it’s been a while. Successfully downloaded Java and checked it in the terminal but Minecraft still does not open 🧐
