Apple Maps app blue dot and funnel shape triangle

What is the purpose of the blue “funnel” next to the blue location dot on the map? The direction it points moves as I rotate the iPhone in my hand. I think it’s trying to show me directions, assuming that the “top” side of my phone is “north”, but I can’t make sense of what that shaded blue thing is pointing at.

Pulsing white ring around the blue dot in Apple Maps Why does the white ring around the blue dot in Apple Maps keep pulsing (I’m on iOS 26 and my gps works fine as it has just been checked by Genius Bar regarding the pulsing ring issue)? I left it there for a long time but it still kept pulsing (I initially thought it was the initial calibration but I seem to be wrong). I don’t remember it used to behave like this before. Does anyone know why it does that or is anyone else also having the same thing?

Are you referring to the image I've posted here?

If so, the blue "funnel" you describe is showing the direction your iPhone is pointing in. In the example shown, the map is oriented to the north, and my iPhone is pointing north. It moves as you move your iPhone in different directions.
