Stolen IPhone Airplane Mode or Switched Off?

Good morning, few days ago in London I had my Iphone12 Pro Max stolen out of my hand whilst ordering an Uber from someone riding an electric bike probably going about 20mph.

It had the latest IOS update and was unlocked when taken from my hand at about 7.26am. Fortunately I was outside my hotel, logged into my laptop and set the phone as lost at 7.34am. The device was not online on find my at this time. At 7.48am I sent the remote erase request and shortly after blocked the SIM with my carrier and online banking etc.

At 7.50am it sent a location, then again at 22:08 that evening. It has not sent a location since and is still visible on find my with the option to ‘cancel erase’. As far as I can tell there has not been any unauthorised attempts at getting into my apple, gmail accounts etc

My question is, based on this information does it seem like the device was switched off after being stolen (as I understand it can still pick up locations), or placed in airplane. Just trying to understand the likelihood that the thief was able to access the data on my device.

thanks

Hacked iPhone:

No one has hacked your iPhone. Did you have a passcode enabled? If so, then it would have been locked, if it was entered incorrectly too many times. So, keep an eye on it, seeing if it becomes locked.

Troubleshooting a Hacked Apple Account:

Open a new eMail account, and use that for your Apple ID. Look at your login history.

Secure your Info:

If concerned for device access, then (A)don't stare your login info, (B.) verify your devices, and (C)secure your account:

A. Verify your Devices:

Verify that all devices are logged in to your account, by using this link: Check your Apple ID Device List to See where you're Signed in - Apple Support

then...

B. Modify your Credentials:

Having been stollen, someone lily has your credentials. So, by all means, modifying them.
