Using Malwarebytes

I purchased a new MacBook Air in January (15 inch, M2). I think I remember the Apple rep saying that any additional malware protection was unnecessary. Should I install Malwarebytes on this new machine?

There is no need to install monitoring software that constantly runs on your computer. Malwarebytes is good for the one time scan when you have downloaded Malware, but no need for it to run all the time. You will know when you have downloaded Malware as the whole point of it is to make itself known by constantly displaying advertisements or fake messages saying you have a virus and need to purchase their product that they are selling to remove it. You will quickly learn that you should not be clicking links on the web that claim they will speed up your computer or scan it for viruses. These are the type of links that will download Malware when clicked and installed.
