Macbook Air bluetooth fails to pair or connect

Macbook Air 2015 Bluetooth will not connect with several already-paired devices that it's connected with in the past. Also Bluetooth speaker not previously paired when I try to pair it does not appear in the device list in Bluetooth preferences. Occasionally Bluetooth will connect with a device but then not play sound. (I have tested all these devices with Android and Windows and each pairs, connects and plays sound easily.).

Here are several steps you can try to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve your problem.

1. Check MacOS and Firmware Updates

Please ensure your MacBook Air is up to date with the latest macOS version and any firmware updates. Outdated software can cause compatibility issues with Bluetooth devices.

2. Reset the Bluetooth Module

Please hold down Shift + Option and click on the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar. Then choose Remove all devices and click OK.

After that, press option + shift on Bluetooth in the menu bar again and click Reset the Bluetooth module.

3. Create a New Network Location

Go to System Preferences and choose Network. Click the three dots dropdown and choose Edit Locations in the sub-menu of Locations.

Create a new location, apply the settings, and try using Bluetooth again.
