iMessage only showing the first letter of text messages since updating to iOS 17 (currently running 17.4.1)

Brand new iphone plus is doing the same thing! I got rid of my last iphone because of numerous glitches, none of which Apple support claimed to have heard of. Now my new phone wont message correctly, and i see that it is a common problem, not addressed by them.

That does not work at least for me ...., I turned off messages and bold text and it still happens .. Well at least you spoke with an APPPLE CARE person.. however if you read all the messages , it still comes back with huge 1 letter in messages

The text bubble thing is so annoying. Something else that is annoying is the “three finger ZOOM”. Just pulling my iPhone out of my pocket will trigger it and then it becomes nearly impossible to get back to a normal screen.

maybe now the algorithms will get you to actually look and respond? This is so bad on a basic functionally that I am truly looking at switching off Apple iPhone completely. How in the world is this not an URGENT issue for Apple to resolve and issue a patch? We know you can do it Apple. It has worked before.

And yes, me too. I don’t have bold text turned on. I have tried every fix here. I do have my text size bigger because I actually need bigger text without glasses.

oh hey, maybe if we make this an accessibility issue or DEI or other disabled user issue they will care? So there it is officially for you Apple - I am disabled and need glasses. Your phone is not making it possible to access my phone.

Something could surely make you wake up and fix this!

This fixes the issue but some of us need larger font size that’s only available through the accessibility feature. Thank you for sharing the fix that helps some of the community. Hoping Apple is monitoring this thread and will address the accessibility issue.

Still happening three months later and many updates later. Closing the app, turning off my phone. none of it fixes it some of the time.

TOTALLY INEXCUSABLE. As was mentioned, the text app is a pretty important one!!!!!!!!! Get it together Apple!

Just adding to the many messages to continue raising awareness to Apple who seems so quick to take our money on these new phones AND new charges and bricks since they continuously change them to increase revenue (😑) but are slow to fix issues when we do buy them. Hopefully the next update will fix it.

I have had the same problem for months. Tried every fix listed. It will correct for short period and it’s back again. Been dealing with it since April. Genius Bar reset my phone and said give it a day or two. No help at all!

that qualifies as viral in customer support land. Seriously ridiculous that you are so tone deaf on such a simple yet critical functionality that is used EVERY day

All good except for those of us with visual issues that use the accessibility settings and need bold.

Had it, got it fixed.

i got a new iPhone 15 plus, and this happens to my messages. So I came here to look for answers. Nothing. The suggestions didn’t correct it.

so I called Apple. The guy didn’t seem to know about the problem, but he had me change some settings, and the problem went away.

i was left unable to receive calls or connect to WiFi. Grrr. Escalated to a top tech on the phone, who ran diagnostics, but was unable to complete, due to the settings. He made me an appointment at the Genius store. They determined that they had done nothing wrong, and said to contact my phone and internet providers.

that was big fun, hours of it, complicated by the fact that they couldn’t call me to test it, if their fix didn’t work. Big fun.

we did get it fixed, though. It was very disappointing that Apple left two other companies, and hours of my time, to resolve a problem that they are, by now, fully aware of.

im really sorry, but I don’t remember what they had me change.

I still get just one letter. Have to shut my phone off turn it on again sometimes it works other times it just puts in letters randomly often the letter CB. I don’t know what’s wrong with it but none of the upgrades it helped. It’s a pain in the neck. I don’t care for this phone.

Same issue. I thought it was because I had too many apps open. So started to close everything out then it would correct itself. Not anymore! Now it’s happening on just one contact text thread. I even powered down and powered back on! Please fix this issue! I even upgraded to a new device!! So annoying!!!

Me too. Just randomly started doing this.
