Why doesn't my Sandisk flash drive appear on the desktop of my MacBook Pro M3?

Trying to use a Sandisk flash drive on a new MacBook Pro m3. When I plug the adapter into the MacBook I get no message but if I go to system info, under USB, It shows the drive. Why can’t I find it on the desktop?

thank you for the reply. the last Mac I had was from 2006 and learning the new OS on this MacBook has been tedious. I suppose I'm to use to my iPad OS. the disk utility does not show the flash drive under volumes or devices. it only appears under USB under system info. I know the ixpand drive works as I used it to off load all the photos on my iPad. ill keep looking, just unsure of my new Macbook's capabilities.
