Update my iPhone x

An iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X isn't capable of 17 or above; they require an A12 or better CPU. To install 16.7.7, use a computer or the Software Update function in Settings.

What's the current iOS that is installed? Without that being provided, try updating using computer. If any update are amiable, they will install, sure enough. See my User Tip:  Update your iPhone Using a Computer - Apple Community
